Silver Jewelry

Silver jewelry has been en vogue for centuries, and probably for longer than that. The unique moonlight-like glow of silver lends itself well to jewelry. In fact, many people prefer the look of silver to that of gold.

Sterling silver jewelry is usually not “pure” silver, with about seven percent of the alloy being made from other metals such as copper. In some cases, platinum and/or zinc is used for additional structural integrity. This is normally done because silver is a very soft metal and as such requires a bit of reinforcement if it is to be used for jewelry.

Today, silver jewelry is as popular as ever. For many people it is simply a matter of preference, as silver is sometimes preferred to gold. However, silver is also considerably less expensive than gold, which is undoubtedly part of its appeal.
